2014 v 2022

Post by morley pie eater »

Just idly looking at past GF years, and, for no particular reason, came across the final table for 2014.

2014 points for and against were:
834 - 439, average margin +14.6. (27 games).

For this season's 24 games so far;
712 - 431 average margin 11.7

So we need to score 122 points in our last 3 games, and concede only 8, to equal the 2014 tally.

The conclusion of my musings is how the mythology builds over the years. Under the dour, defensive Waneball system, we were actually more free-scoring than now! And with a team containing young lads like Joe Burgess and Sam P, plus players many were glad to wave goodbye to like Sarge and Gelling.

Strange innit?

I repeatedly said Waneball was a load of rubbish made up by those completely unhappy with anything the club do.

I will admit we had some poor games under Wane but we had many games where we game back from behind and clinched the game in the final moments.

You just need to watch the matches available from the period to see how false "Waneball" was.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Super league in general is nowhere near as good attacking as it was 10 years ago, in 2012 all the top 6 teams averaged over 30 points a game with Wigan averaging 37, the only team averaging close to 30 now is Wigan with 29.7 but that’s after 6 years of us not averaging over 25 points a game, we obviously aren’t anywhere near as good as we was a decade ago in attack but compared to the last 6 years we’ve improved massively. Shaun wane was massively underrated as an attacking coach however
