Squad for Friday

Post by southportcdm »

Just announced the 21 man squad for Friday on the Club website and it looks like the strongest squad we could field given that Faz isn't going to play again this season, other than that Powell is still missing. Great to see Tommy back, he needs some game time. I'm assuming he'll be used from the bench like in the Cup final. Does anybody know if it's likely that Powell will be available for the playoff game?

21-man squad named for Friday’s final regular Betfred Super League game against Catalans Dragons.

Head Coach Matt Peet has made 12 changes from Monday’s youthful squad at Hull KR, with Thomas Leuluai returning.

Wigan Warriors v Catalans Dragons, Friday 2nd September, 8pm K.O.

Matt Peet has named his 21-player Wigan Warriors squad for Friday’s final regular Betfred Super League game against Catalans Dragons.

The Cherry and Whites host the French side in Round 27 – looking to remain unbeaten at home throughout the 2022 regular season and build momentum ahead of the Play-Off Semi Final in two weeks’ time.

Team News

There are 12 changes from Monday’s youthful squad that put in a valiant effort at Hull KR in Round 26.

Club Captain Thomas Leuluai returns to the squad after a long spell out with a calf injury. The 37-year-old suffered the injury during training and has not featured for the Warriors since Round 15 in the win against Salford Red Devils in June.

Bevan French, Liam Marshall, Cade Cust, Brad Singleton, John Bateman, Morgan Smithies, Harry Smith, Liam Byrne, Kai Pearce-Paul, Jai Field and Mike Cooper also come back into the squad.

Jake Bibby, Patrick Mago, Willie Isa, Kaide Ellis, Oliver Partington, Ethan Havard, Joe Shorrocks, Abbas Miski and Brad O’Neill all keep their places in the squad.

Sam Halsall, James McDonnell, Umyla Hanley, Alex Sutton, Ramon Silva, Junior Nsemba, Zach Eckersley, Logan Astley, Jack Bibby, Harvie Hill, Ben O’Keefe and Tom Forber all drop out.

Still cannot see the point of leaving Halsall out in favour of a player who is unlikely to ever become a centre.

Dont understand the deal with Halsall there must be something off pitch in rugby terms he deserves a run - its a bit like the Escare time when he just couldnt seem to get in the team no matter the injuries etc

Just seen that Catalans are sending a very weakened side (it's on their website) which is understandable but a bit of a shame. We could do with a decent run out as we fine tune for the playoffs.

I agree & I say it every week why leave a specialised centre out to play a forward there?

If Tommy is fit, we can interchange him/Cust with O’Neill.
Aside from Faz, if we can keep this lot fit, we can field our strongest 17 for the next 3 (fingers crossed) games…

We should get a cricket score with the squad they are putting out…… hopefully no injuries…… bev gets a couple for top try scorer and field gets mom to cement the man of steel…… happy then

Bookies giving us…..44 point start😳

Or they’ve got Catalans at 50-1in a straight two horse race!
Don’t think I’ve seen odds like that since I offered the same to work colleagues on our opponents just before the 1998 challenge cup final…being southerners they had no idea about rugby league so I got a few takers 🤕
