Academy win away at Hull KR

Match Report as Wigan Warriors Academy win against Hull KR Academy at Craven Park.

Three scores either side of half time handed Wigan the victory on the final day of the season.

FT | Hull KR Academy 16-28 Wigan Warriors Academy.

The Warriors crossed for three tries either side of half time as they came from behind to take the win over Hull KR.

After finding themselves 10-0 down after two early scores from the hosts, Wigan found their form as Harvie Hill opened the scoring, before Jacob Douglas and Zach Eckersley crossed to send the Warriors in with the half time lead.

Reagan Sumner was first over the whitewash in the second half, but Hull KR responded to get back within two. A final flurry from Wigan though saw Hill cross for his second, before Maddox Jeffery got on the scoresheet in the 77th minute to confirm the win.

Report

Hull KR were straight off the board as they went on the attack from the Warriors kick off, working their way towards the Wigan goal line Jack Krebs opened the scoring, rising above the Wigan defenders to touch down a weighted kick from Jack Potter, the conversion was missed but the hosts led 4-0.

Just a few minutes later and the Robins were in again, following a goal line drop out Harvey Reynolds broke through the line on the right hand edge to go over, Potter added the two-pointer to make it 10-0.

Wigan got themselves back in it in the 18th minute, making the most of back-to-back sets to force their way over the goal line through Harvie Hill. Just moments later and we drew level through Jacob Douglas who added the acrobatics on the right edge, the conversion miss made it 10-10.

The Warriors got their noses in front for the first time on the half hour mark, as once again they found joy on the right edge, this time through Zach Eckersley. Eckersley couldn’t add the extras to his own score, as we went in with the 10-14 lead at the interval.

Wigan extended their lead just after the restart through Reagan Sumner, but Hull KR got themselves back within two-points as Reynolds crossed for his second of the evening, with Potter converting to set up a tense final 20 minutes.

A real fight to the finish followed but Wigan carved open Hull KR twice in the final 10 minutes to battle to victory. Harvie Hill added his second of the evening on 72 minutes, which was converted by Ratchford before Maddox Jeffery rounded off the evening on the left wing.

The final score was 28-16 to Wigan, as they ended the season on a high.
