Community Garden takes shape

Post by josie andrews »

Wigan Warriors Community garden at Robin Park Arena has had another helping hand this week.

New Eco Leaf provided some new materials for the garden as well as some helping hands.

The Community garden has had a helping hand from local gardening firm, New Eco Leaf, to prepare for the year ahead.

Carl Shaw from New Eco Leaf donated 5 tonnes of soil as well as plants and seeds for the Community garden and even recruited volunteers to provide the labour. Carl’s son Michael pays for Shevington Sharks, so coach Lee Jewitt and his U13s team came along to help with general tidying in the garden, planting trees and rose bushes, and clearing away all of the cuttings form the trees which were cut back.

The garden is now looking much tidier and we’re looking forward to growing produce in the garden and providing for the local community.

Community Foundation Assistant Manager, Claire Taylor commented: “We are so grateful to Carl, not only for providing these resources, but giving up his time, and getting more people involved with the garden. It was great to see the Shevington Sharks team, working in the garden together and enjoying the outdoor space.”

Carl Shaw said: “It’s a fantastic feeling to be able to give something back that’s in our skill set and is going to be of benefit to lots of different people, visitors and helpers.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
