Warriors progress in Women’s Nines

Wigan Warriors Women booked their spot in the Women’s Nines finals day, to be held at Salford’s AJ Bell Stadium on Saturday 24th June, after winning three out of three games in the group stages.

Game One: Wigan Warriors 26-0 Leigh Leopards.

The Warriors nilled Leigh in their opening group game of the day. Grace Banks, who was on fire in the tournament, grabbed two bonus tries whilst full-back Beri Salihi scored two tries, as well as an additional effort from Kerrie Evans. Two of the tries were converted, with one slotted over by Becky Greenfield and Alison Burrows adding the other two pointer as Wigan got off to a good start on the day.

Game Two: Wigan Warriors 29-0 Castleford Tigers.

In game two, Wigan ran riot again as they nilled Castleford Tigers. Beri Salihi opened the scoring with a four-point try, before going in shortly after with a five-point bonus try and both were converted by Becky Greenfield for 13-0.

Molly Jones then broke away for a bonus try, with Vicky Molyneux also getting in for a try in the right hand corner. The final act of the second game saw Eva Hunter show her pace to run in a bonus try, converted by Gabi Leigh to complete a 29-0 win.

Game Three: Wigan Warriors 27-4 London Broncos.

Wigan sealed their spot in the final as they made it three-from-three with a strong victory over Betfred Super League South side London Broncos in the final game.

The Warriors scored a five-point try from Grace Banks early on, before Kerrie Evans broke down the left for a score to make it 9-0. Emma Davies then scored her first try in Wigan colours with a fantastic bonus try effort in the centre of the field, which was converted for 16-0.

Grace Banks added another bonus try in the second half, which Gabi Leigh converted before Cerys Jones completed Wigan’s scoring. London did grab a try in the right corner in the dying moments of the game but Wigan took a 27-4 win to book their spot in the finals day in six-weeks time.

The Warriors progress to the finals day on Saturday 24th June alongside Leeds Rhinos, St Helens, Warrington Wolves and York Valkyrie with the wildcard to be announced. Read more from the Nines Group Tournament HERE. https://www.rugby-league.com/article/61 ... warrington
