And his tackle on Knowles on GF was fantastic.

Good luck Joe

i personally think its the best choice for his own career. Stay at Wigan and be a squad member (albeit a valuable one) or move to guarantee 1st team game time (or as good as). he may not win the same number of trophies by moving, but he will be playing a lot more regularly, and fair play to him for that

His versatility was his biggest asset, but equally his biggest downfall as he hasnt been able to hold down a regular position in the team (rightly IMO) due to competition and better players in his key position

he's an awkward size for a rugby league player as hes a bit too slow and big to be a back but not quite got the size needed to be a forward.

The perils of being seen as a "utility player" - reminds me of Lee Gilmour.
It's a shame that we didn't try harder to keep him - a real 100% player who will be missed. Hope we don't regret it when injuries come (as they are bound to do) next season. Wish him well at Salford.

I think the difference with Gilmour was that we used him in a few positions but clearly he was a second rower and a fabulous one at that (sadly he proved that elsewhere), whereas Shorrocks is an out and out utility IMO. I don’t think he has a specialist position or at least he wouldn’t have made one his own here.

Shorrocks was excellent at LF in the academy, combining well with Harry Smith. I always had my doubts as to whether he would bulk up enough to hold down a regular spot in the first team and I think at the end of the day the lack of size to break tackles at first team level seems to have handicapped his career.
