It's an interesting story, certainly interesting enough for Sky Sports to be reporting it so it is probably a goer especially with Sutton saying he would 100% go if he had the chance. Goodbye Ryan. I won't lose any sleep over this, not one bit. Probably one of the most overrated players we have had in recent years. I don't see what he offers. He has been unnecessarily out of shape ever since he broke into the team and has never done anything about it because in Shaun Wane's eyes he is un-droppable for whatever reason. So yeah Ryan, you go and tell the media about how much you want to go while treating the people that are currently paying your wages like mugs. He can feck right off. Navarette is overdue his chance anyway and is in better shape than Sutton will ever be. We will be fine without even replacing him, especially if the rumour is true about using the money to upgrade Bateman's contract. Bateman clearly want's to stay in the UK for his kid but also clearly wants more money. If we are in comparison levels then Bateman is well worth Suttons contract too. Bye Ryan, you never know, Wane might not be here when it all goes belly up to bail you out. Shame.

Rant over. Sick to the back teeth of our players prostituting themselves out in the media. Arrogant, ignorant turds.
. I presume you never wanted a better job.

We all want better jobs but arrogance is another thing. Still a raw kid imo at this stage will never make it in nrl. One thing I am 100% sure of if I employed him and he told me he was looking for another job. he would be sweeping the yard now and I would be putting someone in his place that wanted to be there and would give his all. Not rocket science really.
Spot on but the coach does encourage it by touting them in his comments.
I wonder why it's always the Wigan players that get mentioned in the press for going over there?

Could it be because we have much of the best young English talent in SL, or is that too simple an explanation? :)

Well they didn't look the "best" when given the opportunities last season

The Aussies are in a no lose scenario. Wigan are often willing and happy to release players early from their contracts to move overseas and should it not work out, take the players back off the Antipodean clubs hands, no problem

I completely agree with Firestarter, I think Sutton would go well in the NRL (not immediately mind)

Just look at Hodgson as an example, a "nothing special" hooker at Hull KR now first choice England hooker because the Aussies rant about him

We'll agree to differ then. I think Sutton is nowhere near NRL standard. And as for Hodgson, he's not a first choice England hooker "because the Aussies rant about him", he's a first choice England hooker because he has consistently been one of the very best in his position for a few years now in the best comp in the world.

Is he an example of how good coaching can bring a player on? Well, yes, partly, although I suspect it's got more to do with having quality players around him.

Still can't see it happening with Sutton, though.

I'm well aware of that but you'd expect that talent to be tied up ala Percival, Walmsley and Curie well before the end of contracts or is that too simplistic?

Just reading that Manly prop Darcey Lussic will be leaving the club. Mentions a un named SL club tabled a good offer. 6.4ft 18 stone would seem a good fit? If Sutton goes and FPN already departed would/should we be in for him? It says they wouldn't stand in his way, it also mentions cap issues as a reason.

Good player but we need Sutty's salary to offer JB a better deal and FPN's dosh for another player :D

Who would have thought Hodgson was NRL "standard" whatever that is???

It says everything when Elliot Whitehead gets game time in the back row ahead of Bateman or Heightington got in ahead of Walmsley or Taylor.

Went from a poor HKR side and took his chance in the NRL. Is he better than Clarke, Roby or Houghton who play in the ESL. My opinion - no!

It is the fact he plays in the NRL that got him selection ahead of the others, performances for the representative side speaks volumes and Hodgson has not performed.

How many Australian forwards now ply their trade over here and look "exceptional" as they used to do in the past? Not many. More than often the British players are now more than equal of any Australian forward.

Now if we are debating backs (and especially inside backs) "making it" in the Aussie game I would be buying you whatever you would like to drink in agreement. However, it is a fact that forwards have made the transition well enough for then to be considered integral to whichever NRL team they play for. Some haven't made it, I have no doubt you will trawl up some player in a sad and fruitless attempt to back up your opinion that Sutton wont make it

Leave it that. I think with a bit more professional coaching/training he will.
