I've always had the impression that Briers was highly thought of by those he's coached. You'd hope he could help out Harry Smith for starters. On top of that at least we'd be able to win by drop goal when required.

Interestingly Briers departure from Warrington at the end of the season coincides with a new head coach taking over. They are having the sort of clear out IL says is too expensive with Andrew Henderson also on the way out.

He certainly fits the bill as an outsider and as a half back ought to be able to help sort the attack out. If he is appointed I hope he’s able to exert his influence on the team if it’s in an assistant capacity.

At the moment I think many fans would take virtually anyone from outside the club on board in a senior position as we look for things to change. That isn’t meant as a slight on Briers or his possible appointment but rather reflects the frustrations of the fans.

I assume you know their contracts are being terminated then rather then expiring?

No I am assuming they are expiring. Which is exactly why I said
in my previous post in this thread if IL organised it that head coaches and assistant coaches contracts ran together he’d never have to pay anyone off given he never sacks head coaches.

There is actually no expense if you organise it like this so my point is it’s a false argument to suggest there is.

I imagine it's not that simple as making them all run out at the same time. Pete for example came back half way through a season. I can't imagine he would of if he was told sorry mate here's half a year contract, might renew it next year might not.

For me Briers was a superb game manager during his playing days!

As for coaching, isn't he exactly what we are missing? An experiemced half to specialise on attack in training. Didn't Deacon and or Harris have a similar role?

Not sure exactly what role Briers has had at Wire, for me though, he'll surely have a great impact on Smith and other youthful halves we develop and I'm presuming he's been coaching at Wire for a few years now, so will bring experience too of coaching.

Could be the perfect time for him to join the coaching team for next year. In addition, wasn't too bad at taking a shot at goal back in the day......also what we need!

Quite mis leading to say “the sort IL says is too expensive” because there are two different situations.
1 - assumptions coaches contracts expiring (Warrington)
2 - coaches whose contracts not all expiring at same time (Wigan)

I do agree however that it would make life easier if all the back room staff had contracts in sync with each other but it seems an impossible task. Would everyone have accepted a one year contract when Lam came in?

Whilst the hope is he could deliver what Harris and Deacon did.

I hate the notion that Briers will help
smith. We have Lam, Tommy and Hastings in the team, you would think those players could help Smith.

I think its interesting that people are interested in Briers. If we apply the same logic used against assistant coaches at Wigan, then wire have been pretty mediocre to watch the last few seasons, their attack hasn't been great. Surely that's partially down to Briers

I presume he could help him more in training more closely than the players you've mentioned because they have their own training to do
