Jai Field.

Got a hot rumour from a source inside the club, or just something you heard down the pub? Then what are you waiting for, post it on The Rumour Mill.

Depends on if he was asked a direct question about him, he could hardly ignore the question
Being asked a direct question doesn't mean you have to big the player up at the same time as (allegedly) trying to bin him off. Lies beget more lies so if they really want him to leave they will then have to make up some other nonsense as to why he's left if he goes. Much easier to say nothing rather than dig holes.

I really don't get why people think there is any sense or reason for any club to behave in such machiavellian ways. Most fans won't be into the conspiracy theories that he's done something to warrant being released so will take Peet's statements at face value. They will then be disappointed if he leaves.

We also have people on this forum suggesting the club is paving the way for French not to return. Well if they are, why give the opposite impression for Field when the rumour is they don't want him to return?

But it is the context of the situation he is making the statement in.

If he was down the pub with his mates then yes he may have said something different but he was being 'interviewed' and representing the club in the media.

He is hardly going to say "the least said about that piece of ****, the better" he is merely commentig that he is fit and raring to go for the new season, the fact he may be surplouse to requirements is neither here nor there for the purpose of the interview.

The club have to be professional in the way it conducts itself and that includes when giving interviews.

Maybe Field had been shipped around before Peet made the statement, he's since impressed Peet with his attitude and now he's bigging him up...?

Not having further alienated the player in public if he ends up staying?
It's counter productive. It simply means they lie and can't be trusted and so fans become cynical.
Dave's right. They should have said. "He was fit and ready to go at the start of preseason, which was disappointing for us because were trying to off load him due to his bad attitude."

If Hastings was the, so called, bad influence over Jai, would it not be worth the club waiting to see whether Field "changes his ways" now that Hastings has gone back to Aus?

Fair point, Hastings is certainly an "individual" and had very strong ties with Salford - maybe the root of his unhappiness.

We didn't see much of Field but he looked totally out of sorts in his last match for us and didn't seem focussed?

He looked totally out of sorts & out of place when the fans T-shirt signing was held at Robin Park. Very, very quiet as if he wasn’t mixing with the other players except Hastings, who is mad as a box of frogs 😉 & didn’t interact with fans either! Sat there with a hoodie on over a baseball cap!
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

It will either be the Wigan way or the highway. If you couldn't get a cheep out of him Josie I am worried. Hopefully, now that Jacko has gone things will improve.

It’s interesting you say that because I’ve always looked at him in the interviews on Wigan TV and on clips of him around the place and I’m not sure I’ve ever seen him smile. He looks like a lad who has the weight of the world on his shoulders and that always worried me. I’ve never posted anything about it because that could just be the lads manner or even worse, he may really be struggling but it worries me from the outset. It doesn’t go hand in hand 100% of the time but the best overseas players that come here usually have some spark about them and you sense they really enjoy a new environment.

I just hope we can get him on the field and playing well. Everything else just fades in to the background then.
