What Luke Thompson has said about potential return to Super League

Last night it was reported that Wigan Warriors had put in a huge offer of a four-year deal to Luke Thompson on money his current NRL club the Canterbury Bulldogs can’t compete with.

However, there is one important thing to consider.

What the player wants

Just over a week ago, Luke Thompson was open about his desire to stay in the NRL:

“I want to stay in the NRL. I feel like I have unfinished business here. My best footy is still ahead of me. I want to play in this competition and win a premiership. I’ve won two in Super League but I want one out here,” he said to the Daily Telegraph.

“I feel like my time has been disrupted. The first season I kept getting suspended. In Super League I played eight years and missed one game through suspension.

I had a concussion last year. We’ve had five coaches in three years which hasn’t helped but the team is looking better and doing well.

“I feel like I’ve been consistent but there are better pieces around me now the team is coming together. Everyone is on the same page and I feel like I can show what I can do in this team.”

He also gave an update on his injury situation.

I saw the specialist last Monday. He said another four to six weeks. I am tracking really well and doing everything I need to do.

“I’ve been really diligent to get back as quick as I can and help the team out. We’re down on troops at the moment.”

Meanwhile, during the World Cup he told Serious About Rugby League that he had “unfinished business” in the NRL and this injury that he addressed is likely to make him feel more determined about completing that unfinished business.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

He might come to Wigan.

Or

He might stay in the NRL

Great insight.

Too much baggage in term of injuries, suspensions and especially concussions.
Steer Clear!
