SALFORD AWAY

Post by Nezza Faz »

Going to the Salford match but never been before, if anyone can help with a couple of things :-

1) We are going by car but have heard some horror stories about congestion at their car park & getting away again afterwards. Does anyone know any other places to park up safely & maybe where myself & mates can have a quick pint !

2) See the Tickets on sale at the DW are for behind the sticks, but have noticed on TV that they look very low down with probably not much of a spec - if you can verify this or not.
Also, the big stand along the side looks a decent option ?

Thanks for any help with this - all so different after years of travelling to the willows !

Living in Irlam, depending what side of Wigan you are coming from I would suggest you travel down M6 get off at J21 follow A57 towards Irlam (should see brown Rugby Ball signs) straight across three roundabouts then once you go past little one way island thing the road opens to dual carriageway with a set of traffic lights almost immediately with a Makro on the right. Take the next left after the lights and immediately right into layby and park on layby, 10 minute walk to stadium. I would suggest turning car round to face back the way you came as returning by same route is much quicker than getting through the congestion.

If you want a pint, I believe you can get one at the Airfield clubhouse, the airfield is on your walk to the stadium, alternatively at the first roundabout (approx 3 miles from motorway) take the first exit onto Liverpool Road immediately after the third set of traffic lights turn right and park in the Catholic club car park. The RVP Bar is on the same side as you are parked. If you keep going along Liverpool road for approx another two miles the old Nags Head is on your left. Keep following Liverpool Road to the Stadium.

There has been chaos on the A57 and the M60 especially around J11 this weekend with roadworks due to a gas leak

Thanks a lot for your guidance, southernpie.

Will actually be coming from the M61 side, but have checked with google maps & can understand your directions ok.

A friend today told me they parked at Eccles RL club last year & they looked after the car and was very hospitable in the clubhouse, with snacks also available ; anyone else know about this & how long it is to get to the stadium from there ? Not sure of the cost of this though.

Just leaves you with the congestion getting out, hopefully not too bad by the time the match has finished. Give yourself plenty of time to get there as the M60 is very heavy traffic on Friday nights, but you will be going against the main flow.

Apparently the local roadworks should be clear by Tomorrow, so that should make things easier.

Eccles RU club is a good option about 15 min walk to ground

I tend to park on the inside of the M60 and walk. Its about 20minutes walk. There is a worknig mans club on the way that has a sign welcoming rugby fans, but i've not been in there yet. The traffic is terrible off the motorway, so get somewhere near the ground very early and be perpared to dump the car and walk for some distance.

The proposed redvelopement of the are should make the traffic situation a bit better because you'll be able to get to the ground from the trafford centre and that would open up several more junctions on the M60 to get to the ground as well as public transport, but for now its chaos.
