Reds part company with Harrison

TUESDAY - 22nd May 2007

Salford City Reds have terminated the contract of head coach Karl Harrison with immediate effect.

The decision comes after a disappointing first half of the season and following the recent results in France. Karl met this morning (Tuesday) with chairman John Wilkinson, CEO David Tarry and football director Steve Simms.

Wilkinson said: “The board of directors would like to thank Karl for his hard work and service during his five years here at Salford City Reds. The club feel that with 13 fixtures remaining the time has come for a new direction. We wish Karl all the best for the future”

Former Great Britain prop Harrison was the longest-serving coach in the engage Super League, joining Salford in June 2002. Unable to keep the team in the top flight that year Harrison subsequently secured immediate promotion the following season, culminating in a first appearance in the top-six play-offs last autumn.

His departure will see Simms take the role of caretaker coach while the club searches for a permanent replacement

Expected yes but justified. Hero to villan in one season. Salford have the players to make a game of it. They don't. KH is not on the field. Have they room to move in the SC. They have time to recover but someone has to be bottom. Wonder if Macrae is buying a plane ticket!!!! HC

Feel sorry for KH, his players kept letting him down time after time. Puts Jimmy Lowes in a funny position; appointed to the GB coaching set up and possibly out of a job at the Reds if a new broom sweeps clean.
