BROWN TAKES MELBOURNE ROLE

Post by josie andrews »

Four months after guiding St Helens to Grand Final glory at Old Trafford, Nathan Brown is back in rugby league after being appointed by Melbourne Storm as a coaching consultant.

The 41-year-old former Huddersfield Giants boss, who was granted an early release from his contract with Saints for family reasons, will be based in Sydney for his new role.

Brown, who was a one-club man with St George Illawarra, playing for them for 10 years and then becoming their coach, before moving to England in 2008, will provide Melbourne head coach Craig Bellamy with opposition analysis as well as helping out with specialist coaching for the club's hookers and half-backs and assisting in a recruitment role.

Melbourne's football director Frank Ponissi said: "We are pleased to have Nathan join Storm in a consultancy role.

"From the study trips Craig and I have undertaken in AFL, NFL and European soccer, opposition scouting is an area we have found clubs have put resources to.

"We see this as another tool that our coaching staff can use as part of preparing the team for the opposition each week."

Brown spent six years in England, guiding Huddersfield to their first Wembley appearance for 47 years in 2009 and last October masterminding St Helens' first title triumph for eight years.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
