Are we watching a second rate comp?

Got something to discuss about RL in general? Then this is the place to post it.

Are we watching a second rate comp?

Post by shaunedwardsfanclub »

I think so. Unless the authorities in RL change the games structure then we are going to fall further and further behind our friends down under.

Here the weak teams rule the roost, in Aus the weak teams are shown the door!

Against Manly and BB we won on equal terms I fear that we will not be able to match those achievements in the future.

Yep.

But until there is more money in the UK game thats the way its going to be. Raising the cap will not instantly fix that either, We need more media interest and from that more income. Fastest way to achieve that IMO is to develop a good England team from players based mostly in the NRL.

Albeit with 4 clubs. And then the game folds.

Think this has been true ever since the late 70's. Maybe when we were in our pomp we might have been able to hold our own against them but Mo's strive for excellence has been well and truly undermined by the dinasours who run the game.

As said by the previous poster we always have been since the 70's. At least the gap now is not related to strength and conditioning and simply about coaching philosophy.

It could be worse we could be watching a 2nd rate sport, Union.

The UK sucks at team sports across the board and it is nearly always down to coaching philosophy.

Maybe ,thats for the best.No uk market for pro full time RL.???Lot of people can fund a club up to 4million pa,less club income and profits. And if they will not, back to semi pro./amateur.

It's not that simple! When we had no cap we couldn't compete at the top level. There are fundamental problems with the structure of the British game, everything cannot be blamed on salaries.

Exactly, they could double, but it but it will still not attract top Union players in our country or top NRL players at their peak.

All we can do now is keep producing our own young players and merge some clubs to have bigger and stronger clubs to compete at the level of the NRL.

Fair point. But maybe raising the salary cap would stop us losing some of our best players?
