Hull scrum-half Sneyd facing up to five-match ban

Post by josie andrews »

Hull scrum-half Marc Sneyd faces a ban after being charged with making dangerous contact on Leeds' Danny McGuire.

The Rugby Football League confirmed the 24-year-old will face a disciplinary hearing on Tuesday following a controversial challenge that left the Rhinos half-back with a suspected broken ankle in Sunday's First Utility Super League clash at Headingley.

Sneyd was sin-binned by referee Robert Hicks, as was McGuire for kicking out in frustration, but the Leeds man will face no further sanction after it was deemed he made minimal contact.

McGuire was also due to undergo scans on Monday as the Rhinos waited to learn the extent of his injury.

Sneyd, who faces a three to five match ban, does not have the option of an early-guilty plea (EGP) for what is classified as a grade D offence by the RFL.

Meanwhile, Huddersfield's Brett Ferres has been charged with a grade C offence of punching following his sending-off after an incident involving Rhys Hanbury in the Giants' victory at Widnes on Sunday.

The 29-year-old, who could be banned for two or three games if found guilty, does have the option of an EGP if he opts not to fight the charge.

And Warrington's Declan Patton was issued with a formal caution for kicking out at John Boudebza in a tackle during his side's defeat at Hull KR on Friday.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
