Wire star Ormsby to miss Super 8s

Post by josie andrews »

Warrington have confirmed winger Gene Ormsby faces around eight weeks on the sidelines with a broken jaw.

Ormsby suffered the injury in the Wire's Challenge Cup semi-final defeat to Hull KR on Saturday.

The club have now revealed the 22-year-old has undergone surgery and is expected to be missing for eight weeks. The injury comes as a big blow to Warrington as Ormsby will now almost certainly miss the entirety of the Super 8s stage, with their last fixture at St Helens on September 25.

Ormsby's season may well be over as a result as the Wire face a big battle to reach the play-off semi-finals, with Tony Smith's side sixth in the standings after the end of the regular season and four points adrift of fourth-placed Huddersfield. Warrington confirmed the blow in a short post on their Facebook page, which read: "Gene Ormsby was operated on today after suffering a broken jaw. He is expected to be out for up to 8 weeks." -

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
