Clubs frantically trying to recruit as transfer deadline looms

Post by josie andrews »

Time is ticking for a number of clubs, as the deadline to recruit players for the remainder of the season passes on Friday.

Clubs have until the end of the working week to agree deals and fill in the paperwork as they look to reinforce their squads for the remainder of the season, whether that be to push for promotion, strengthen ahead of next season or avoid relegation.

In the last month, we have seen a number of clubs strengthen their squads. Most notably, Wakefield signed David Fifita, Wigan brought in Frank-Paul Nuuausala and Leeds snapped up James Segeyaro. The deadline doesn’t just apply to Super League clubs, with Leigh, London and Bradford also bolstering their squads by bringing in Danny Tickle, Jamie Soward and Dane Chisholm respectively.

Despite a flurry of activity already, there’s a good chance that even more will take place before the end of the week. Hull KR fans are pleading for a half-back to replace the injured Terry Campese while St Helens are known to be looking to improve their squad at all times. Castleford have today been linked with a move for Saints forward Andre Savelio, while Huddersfield could also make another move after Rick Stone’s arrival.

Beyond that, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see Leigh bring in another new face or two, while other Championship head coaches are considering their options.

Last year’s deadline day proved to be incredibly busy, with a number of transfers taking place, particularly among clubs in the Middle 8s. Although it’s hard to imagine it being as busy as last year, it promises to be exciting all the same.

Of course, we’ll bring you all the latest news as soon as we get it, i what promises to be a very intriguing few days.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
