Neither would I. I wouldn't say he's my favourite Aussie ref, but they are generally better than our guys.

Well, consistency is one thing that he won't get over here. But maybe he can bring a new perspective on things.

My nephew was at the semi final and he did say the whole experience left him moved, an almost religious experience he called it shame a few heed the balls have to spoil the memory of that day for those that where there,becuase to threaten someones life over a sport is utterly insane.

Oh and it was a try all day long from where he was.

The death threats are obviously out of order but when I read this from the linked article:

"Cecchin has spoken in the past about his battle with mental illness and said he takes it to heart if he does not referee well."

I am not sure he's in the right job anyway. If he is so hard on himself he's got a job where he's going to attract a lot of criticism and have every decision analysed. I think to be a ref you have to have the thickest of all skins of those involved in the game at the top level.

As an aside, we had some Australian friends visit this weekend and they reckon the standard of refereeing in the NRL is appalling and is driving fans away. They are not prone to going OTT but gave some examples from SoO games of blatant inconsistency as they saw it. The very thing we complain about most often over here.

I read Aussie complaints about refs ruining the game every week. And you know what? Their refs are comfortably better than ours in every department. I guess they just love a good moan!
