It's an award for best international player is the season. So what else should it be judged on other than performances in internationals this season?
For so many years it has been the award for the best player in the world. Now the best international player gets the golden boot.So if Ukraine play 3 games and one of their players scores 10 tries against say Morroco, Romania and Lithuania he could get the golden boot?Dont be ridiculous, its a joke and you know it Mike

The Aussies have never lost a match! If the score has been against them it's because of bad refereeing, cheating by the other side, over watering of the pitch or too much snow on the pitch!
I always love watching the cycling at the Olympics when GB do nowt during the time between the games but kick the Aussies arses and they do nowt but bellyache!

A sensible rational post from OH and Mike. However I do think the subject title is somewhat OTT. I acknowledge the sentiment that initiated the post but I confess I think the heart was ruling the head.
What I witnessed in this test series was two great RL games and one complete capitulation. Tommy fully deserved his "Man of the Series " for which he received a medal and England received the series "Silverware "
I was under the same impression as OH when. I made my previous post for which Mike pointed out the current criteria of which I was at the time ignorant and it was because of that that I felt that Tommy would have been embarrassed by the " Golden Boot " award. How ever Mike dispelled my ignorance but that didn't dispel my feelings for Tommy having past greats castigating the integrity of the award which was deserved on the criteria then in place

I think on the showing of the 3rd Test registering "0" points suggests we have still a long way to go before to match the Aussies

Ignore what they say one day we will dominate (hopefully)

And this year we have beaten the Kiwis by 3 - 1, whilst they themselves have come off a victory against the Kangaroos.
Always going to be an issue once the series was decided, with the losers having more to play for in avoiding the whitewash.
A major problem for England, in a short week's turnaround, was coping with the loss of four key players, against a settled side, with everything to prove.
Put the Burgess boys in the team, with Clark and Sam and you'd probably have a different scoreline.
Think there has been a marked improvement since Bennett took charge and he's learning himself about who to pick (or not !).

I concur Nez and I think it goes without saying that WE didn't avoid the whitewash. Bennet does appear to have made substantial improvement in our mindset. Hope it persists :)

But this bleating doesn't just come from Makinson winning this award this year, in 2012 when Kevin Sinfield, one of the best of all time to grace Super League, won it, Australians were crying out Kevin Who?
They had a point though. Sinfield has been a great servant to the game and a top SL player but I don't think he ever had a decent international game all his career. A good clubman but best player in the world in 2012? Nope. They might never have heard of Makinson either but he looks the part, Sinfield never did at International level.
