REVEALED: Summer Bash fixtures for Blackpool out now

Post by josie andrews »

The Summer Bash will return to Blackpool in 2019 after the RFL released a mouthwatering schedule for next year’s event.

Despite competition from other hosts, Bloomfield Road will once again stage the Championship’s big weekend on the road and will boast a number of huge fixtures over the weekend.

Bradford’s return to the event will see the Bulls lock horns with local rivals Halifax in one of the highlight attractions, with the game set to headline the Saturday.

Widnes’ debut at the event will see them take on Leigh in a game that will see Kieron Purtill take charge against his former club in the final game of the weekend.

Toronto and Toulouse will also go to battle while York will take on Featherstone, who have never won at the event.

The Heavy Woollen derby remains on the cards as Dewsbury play Batley, while Rochdale will once again play Swinton.

Barrow will play Sheffield in the seventh game.

Ralph Rimmer, the chief executive of the Rugby Football League, said: “The fixture list for next year’s Summer Bash sums up why we’re so excited about the Betfred Championship in 2019.

“We’ve got the international appeal of Toronto and Toulouse, with more big-name players and coaches than ever.

“Bradford Bulls, Widnes Vikings and the York City Knights are three new clubs to the Championship next year who will add so much. They’re all involved in cracking games against Halifax, Leigh and Featherstone respectively, and I’m confident their supporters will relish this chance to get involved in the Bash, and get behind their team in Blackpool.

“It’s down to the supporters that we are going back to Bloomfield Road for a fifth consecutive year. We had a number of other strong applications to stage the Summer Bash in 2019, showing how the concept has established itself as a real celebration of what the Championship has to offer, on and off the field.

“But all the analysis we did showed that our supporters wanted to go back to Blackpool. Everybody knows the special range of attractions available to fans of all ages which makes it perfect for a Rugby League weekend away.”

The full Championship fixture list will be revealed at 6PM.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
