TOMKINS GIVEN BIZARRE SQUAD NUMBER FOR CATALANS

Post by josie andrews »

England full-back Sam Tomkins will wear number 29 for his new side Catalans Dragons next season with Tony Gigot retaining the number 1 jersey.

Matty Smith, the other former Wigan star to join the Dragons for the 2019 campaign, has been handed the number 7 shirt while Samisoni Langi will wear 6.

Matt Whitley, who joined from Widnes last month, will wear 17 with the rest of the squad numbers staying relatively the same from the 2018 season.

Backed by many as the dark horses for next year, Steve McNamara’s side will be looking to win their maiden Super League crown in 2019 after winning the Challenge Cup for the first in their history this August.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Exactly, 76 or 00 would be bizarre, Why is it even news, couldn't care less about the, stole a living in his second stint at the club, then plays good for half a season and his old fanboys cream themselves over him

Really doubt we'd have got through the top 8's unbeaten, and then the Play off's and then the GF without his influence/presence in the team, remembering also SOL was hardly available during all this time, so therefore his leadership and organisation were vital in a youngish side.
Same can be said about his two performances for England against NZ.

Regarding the Number, wasn't Bateman:14 and Sutton:15 both now in the NRL ! Seem to recall Morgan, Navarette and even Manfredi were mid to high:20's ?
Just proves squad number is mainly irrelevant, especially the longer the season goes.

Nothing bizarre about this at all.
The bizarre one for me would have been number 167, the positions he's likely to play.
That would have been good.
