MINNS BANNED FOR 16 MONTHS

Post by josie andrews »

Thomas Minns has been banned for 16 months after testing positive for cocaine.

The 24-year-old ex-Leeds and London player failed the drugs test in March 2018 while playing for Hull KR in their 38-6 win away against Huddersfield Giants.

Minns said he took the banned substance on 11 March as he struggled with his mother’s death asking to be “heard and understood.”

However, the centre was released by Rovers in July and has now been given a 16-month ban with UK Anti Doping chief executive Nicole Sapstead stating: “All athletes must adhere to the principle of strict liability.”

She added: “Regardless of whether or not they are deliberately seeking to gain an unfair sporting advantage.

“It is an athlete’s responsibility to know what substances are in their system, and they must be aware that even if a substance is not banned out-of-competition, there is always the possibility of it remaining in their body for a period of time and it being detected in-competition.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
