John Bateman and Ryan Sutton are poised to make their NRL debuts after being named in the Canberra side for their opener against Gold Coast Titans.

The former Warriors duo, who left at the end of last season, are both in Ricky Stuart's 17-man squad. Bateman has been named at loose forward, while prop Sutton is on the bench. They are two of four Brits in the side, alongside Josh Hodgson and Elliott Whitehead.

Just watched the game. JB did 80 mins, playing at 13, and did well. Couldn't make the metres he made in SL, but was a tackling machine as always, Also won an easily kicked pen for his side late on.

Sutton only got the last ten minutes, but did nothing wrong.

Bateman looked very comfortable that’s for sure he will be a big star over there

Can this week get any worse, Canberra showed what we are missing...Aussies commentators were heaping praise onto Batman, especially when he ran the old Wigan move coming inside against the grain. Sutton only had 10mins and took a heavy tackle or two.

Yes he did, he didn't duck out of the way of the high shot ;)

Another solid display from JB, although he was a hiding to nothing against the power of the Storm. But still the Raiders' top tackler, and a try assist to boot.

Another good effort by John but the fact that he didn't stand out as he would have done at home just shows how high the standard is over there. He said last week that he found the ruck speed to be faster and it looked like he had to take regular 'breathers' which he rarely did over here. It's much more difficult for him to make yards and break tackles but he did play a vital role in one of the tries. I'll be interested to see if he develops his passing/offloading game, something he didn't really do with us. He can be proud of his efforts so far though, I hope he can keep it going. He's having to tackle a lot of very big, powerful blokes and it is likely to take it's toll at some point.

Terrific again from JB, 39 tackles and 180m and two wonderful clean breaks, one in each half. He must be aching!

JB was the man of the match. Sutty also played well.

With Blake Austin scoring 4 tries for the Wire last night and Lenagan knowing he was going to sell Williams to Canberra at the end of this season back when Bateman was sold why did our Owner forget the cash for Bateman and do a straight swop for Austin?
I only ask because I want to know.
