Merrin going back to the NRL next year?
Could Trent Merrin be headed back to the NRL in 2020?
According to Sporting News column ‘NRL Lurker’, the Leeds Rhinos forward hasn’t settled well into Super League life.
Signed on a four-year marquee deal at Headingley, Merrin could seek a comeback Down Under next season to cut his stay in England very short indeed, reports claim.
There are reports emerging from Australia that Leeds Rhinos marquee signing Trent Merrin could be heading back Down Under next year.
The forward was signed on a four-year marquee deal at the Headingley club but reports suggest the prop is not settling in well and could be looking at an early return to the NRL.
St George Illawarra Dragons are the club that are most likely to target Merrin should he want to go back to Australia. The 29-year-old featured in over 130 matches for the Red V from 2009 to 2015, before moving to Penrith Panthers.
It all possibly hinges on whether Jack de Belin - who will miss the opening month of the NRL campaign after pleading not guilty to a charge of aggravated sexual assault - is at the Dragons in 12 months’ time.
