Hull KR head coach Tim Sheens could be set for a return to the NRL with Cronulla Sharks reportedly lining him up as the club’s new General Manager.

The 68-year-old is in the final year of his contract at Rovers and the Australian Daily Telegraph have reported that he is likely to return down under before the end of the year.

Sheens has spent the last five years in England and was director of rugby at Salford Red Devils prior to becoming Hull KR head coach in 2017.

Speaking about the reported move, Australia head coach Mal Meninga told Fox League that Sheens “would be a great acquisition” for the Sharks.

“If it’s true, I think it’s a good get,” said Meninga.

“Vast experience and great knowledge of the game. A great teacher of men. I learned plenty off him at the back end of my career even. He taught me a lot about leadership.

“He’s done it right from the grassroots, he’s been involved with junior rugby league, recruitment and everything to do with a club. I think he’d be a great acquisition.”

Penrith GM Phil Gould has also been linked with the Sharks, but it appears the 2016 NRL Premiers are now favouring a move for ex-Kangaroos boss Sheens.

Should he leave, it would be a big blow for Hull KR who have regained and cemented their Super League status under the Australian in recent seasons.
