Hull FC injury problems continue as Danny Houghton and Scott Taylor struggle

Post by josie andrews »

Hull FC’s injury problems could be set to worsen as the club monitor the fitness of Danny Houghton and Scott Taylor.

Hull Live understands the club’s captain and vice-captain have been struggling injuries this week, picked up in the Black and Whites victory over Salford Red Devils on Sunday.

While a calf problem was causing Taylor discomfort, Houghton is thought to have picked up a knee injury, which could see him miss his first game this season.

Doubts currently exist over both players’ potential to be included in the squad to travel to Perpignan for Saturday’s clash with Catalans Dragons, leaving head coach Lee Radford with something of a selection crisis on his hands.

Andre Savelio limped off the field of play at the AJ Bell Stadium with a knee issue, something that Radford claimed on Sunday didn’t appear to be as bad as first feared.

However, he will not travel to France after being hit with a one-game ban for tripping on Sunday and Mickey Paea was given the same punishment for raising his knees. Houghton was also sanctioned for a trip, but his offence was not deemed serious enough to carry a suspension.

As such, with Masi Matongo struggling with a shoulder problem and Josh Bowden and Chris Green in the final stages of their recovery from long-term issues, Radford could be forced to dig deep into his squad in order to field a front row this weekend.

There is some good news, though, with FC hopeful of being able to welcome Jamie Shaul back into the fold this weekend. The full-back has missed the last two games after picking up his second concussion of the season in the win over London Broncos last March.

Ratu Naulago could also be fit after picking up a shoulder injury in the capital, giving Hull options on the edge.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
