Magic Weekend crowd - how 2019 attendance at Anfield compares to every other event

Before the start of the 2019 Magic Weekend there were fears the switch from Newcastle to Liverpool would bring with it a record low crowd for the event, now in its 13th year.

Those fears have been allayed, although the crowd at Anfield this weekend is still significantly down on the 64,319 who attended St James’ Park last year.

After 30,057 came through the turnstiles to watch day one at Anfield, 26,812 were in attendance today for an overall total of 56,869.

The crowd is the lowest since the 2010 event in Edinburgh and is the second lowest ever for Magic Weekend, but is up on the expected total of 50,000 that had been predicted.

Super League bosses are understood to be reasonably happy with the crowd figure, with the potential that the event could return to Anfield next season, although numerous other venues are also in the running with a decision taken later this year.

Below is the comparison of every Magic Weekend crowd.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

They need to state how many tickets were sold to get a true reflection.

But of course they won’t.

I enjoyed it on Saturday as I said there’s nothing to do really at Anfield and it missed that party atmosphere that Newcastle certainly had,but it seemed to me it kept people in the ground so it created a different kind of atmosphere,so swings and roundabouts I suppose.

I’d say the ground was half full Saturday so the 30k figure was probably right but I wonder how many of them where comps?we will never know though
