Furner could take Leeds to court

Post by josie andrews »

Reports in Australia’s Daily Telegraph suggest former Leeds head coach David Furner is considering taking the club to court.

The 48-year-old was sacked by the Rhinos just 14 games into a three-year deal and has yet to receive a termination agreement.

A former Leeds player in the early noughties, Furner’s appointment was met by warm approval by the Rhinos’ faithful ahead of this season.

But he arrived at a club in transition and soon found himself at loggerheads with Director of Rugby Kevin Sinfield over recruitment and retention.

After winning only four league games in three months, he was sacked in May and replaced by Richard Agar.

Furner now wants to return home and find work in Australia but is unable to until a settlement has been reached with the Rhinos.

Should the situation not be resolved soon, then Furner may take the eight-time Super League champions to court so he can move on.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
