And this is why no one cares about international rugby league and why we should move to a different model

England just won a World Cup captained by an Irish man and with the final over bowled by someone born in Barbados.

do you mean "in union" or "as it is in union"?Wigan_forever1985 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 4:40 pmNo where near as wide spread in unionnathan_rugby wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 3:53 pmHasn't done Rugby Union any harm.Wigan_forever1985 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 3:42 pm

Re: Austin in England squad
In an ideal world players should only represent the country they are born in but sadly that is not the case. So if Austin,Hastings et al wish to put their hand up to play for GB then lets select them.Every other country have an advantage over us by selecting 'foreigners' and lets be fair.we are not spoilt for choice at half back and these 2 are the best in SL by a mile.
Re: Austin in England squad
Depends how you look at it. England union squad has 7 players in it not born in England. New Zealand has 5. Wales have a low number but not spending all night checking. If your looking at the best sides in union they have relied on overseas players for years.Wigan_forever1985 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 4:40 pmNo where near as wide spread in unionnathan_rugby wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 3:53 pmHasn't done Rugby Union any harm.Wigan_forever1985 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2019 3:42 pm

Look at it like this imagine how good Tonga would be in league years ago if NZ stop taking their best players. I understand your statement regarding the numbers over all in league that jump a nation but its needed as domestic standards outside NZ, Australia and England is very very poor.
But if a player is available and improves the side then only an idiot of a coach would take the moral high ground when especially New Zealand league side has been dependent on the number of non NZ born players in their side. Even Australia is known for taking 1 or 2.
