Watkins set for NRL debut

Post by josie andrews »

Former Leeds Rhinos captain Kallum Watkins has been cleared to make his NRL debut this weekend.

The 28-year-old signed for Gold Coast Titans on a two-and-a-half year contract last month but was denied a farewell at Emerald Headingley Stadium after being forced to fly to Australia early to make the June 30th transfer deadline.

He has been training with his new teammates for almost a month but has been held back from playing while he and the club awaited clearance on his visa.

That clearance arrived this week and Watkins was named to start in the centres for the Titans for Saturday’s Queensland derby with Brisbane Broncos.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Good luck to the lad. We should have signed him when he was a Salford Junior.
