Next year’s Coral Challenge Cup Final will be played on Saturday 18th July 2020.
The RFL have revealed the date for the Wembley showpiece has been brought forward because of the venue’s involvement in the UEFA Euro 2020 football finals.
It will be the first time since 2004 that the Challenge Cup Final has not been staged in August with tickets set to go on general sale in October.
Mark Foster, the RFL’s Chief Commercial Officer, said: “Moving the 2020 Coral Challenge Cup Final to mid-July in 2020 presents us with a real opportunity to attract a capacity crowd for Rugby League’s showpiece event at Wembley. We wanted to give our supporters as much time as possible to plan for that.
“It means that Rugby League’s big weekend at Wembley will occur on the weekend after the final of the Euros and Wimbledon and the weekend before the Opening Ceremony of the Olympics, so a fantastic opportunity within the summer of sport next year.
“It will also be at a time when fewer people are away on holiday and we will be working hard over the next 11 months to make sports fans, families and event-goers aware of what an amazing event it is with such extraordinary athletes performing on the pitch.
“With the final being played during term time, it gives us a great opportunity to work with schools that play Rugby League, particularly focusing on the significant number of schools in London that play our sport.
“It will be the first time in the Challenge Cup’s 123-year history that the Final has been played in July, and we hope that Rugby League supporters will embrace that opportunity and help us make it a big success.”

Next year’s Challenge Cup Final to be played in July
Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Why not move it to May?
Re: Next year’s Challenge Cup Final to be played in July
Are they going to rejig the competition permanently or is this just going to be for the 1 year that the stadium is unavailable due to the Euros? It make's no sense? Surely if the final of the Euro's is a week before the new date it would be more beneficial for it to be on the traditional August bank holiday to give more time for the pitch to recover?
Either way. If in 2021 the final will be back on August bank Holiday surely it would be a better idea to keep the date where it is in 2020 and move the final to Cardiff. Better stadium, better atmosphere, better located in relation to local hosteleries.... Once again our sport is playing second fiddle and the powers that be at the RFL are not prepared to stand up for themselves.

I do hope they keep it away from the August Bank Holiday as the rail lines from the North of England to London are always closed or restricted due to engineering works that weekend.
With it being a pay again game for us season ticket holders they could help fans even more by having C Cup rounds on the first weekend of the month.
Most of us are paid in the last week of the month so have it the first weekend of the month when we have money in our accounts, pockets and purses.
A good move by the RFL.

Well almost, yes they need to move it away from a bank holiday weekend with all the travel hassle , (didn't they do it with Magic or was that just an error?) but if you are depending on having last months pay to fund the trip Ted you would be better advised to watch it at home on the TV and save enough money to cover the cost of the annual season ticket. Like me I hasten to add.
Regarder une fille en bikini, c'est comme avoir un revolver chargé sur sa table:
Il n'y a rien de mal a ça mais il est difficile de penser à autre chose.
Now Europe is just for holidays.

Good point that Ted,more likely to get “walk ups” if you’ve just been paid everyone likes a treat now and again and those who perhaps don’t go now for whatever reason would be better tempted just after a pay day than at the end.Wiganer Ted wrote: ↑Fri Aug 23, 2019 5:50 pm I do hope they keep it away from the August Bank Holiday as the rail lines from the North of England to London are always closed or restricted due to engineering works that weekend.
