We don’t know that Hicks made a mistake. From the replays that we saw it could be argued that he should have gone to the video referee, but Hicks position was directly behind the player, he was under the posts. If we had seen the replay from his view then it maybe this would not be an issue at all!
Thats the point though isn't it. He was in a position where he couldn't see, and that's exactly what the VR is for.

Who says he didn’t see it? Hicks seemed pretty confident to me. I do agree that he should have gone to VR though. It is a pity that more angles were not shown on the TV.
