Saints to announce new coach in next week or two

Post by josie andrews »

SAINTS expect to announce their replacement for head coach Justin Holbrook "in the next week or two".

Speaking in the post match interview on Sky Eamonn McManus confirmed that the announcement was imminent.

There has been little in the way of speculation in recent weeks, after Newcastle's assistant coach Kristian Woolf was installed as favourite with Super League's title sponsors Betfred.

McManus said: “The new coach will be announced within next week or two.”

Although McManus used his programme notes to express his frustration at last week's Wembley defeat, his interview with Sky Sport focused on the positive aspects of Saints finishing top of the pile again.

McManus joined the team and staff in celebrating the League Leaders Shield.

“We feel great. Back to back League Leaders’ Shield winners.

“I think we’ve been top every weekend for the past two years. It’s quite something. We’re proud of players, coaching staff and fans

And we’re playing entertaining rugby that people want to watch - it’s not just winning. It’s entertaining rugby.

“The Grand Final is the main event - what the whole season dedicated towards.

“We wrapped this one up in real style and incredibly emphatically. But this is the way the game is structured and it is an incredibly exciting few weeks ahead for all rugby league supporters and it’s our intention to win it - as it is all the teams in the top five.

“But we’ll be gunning for that - definitely.

“Justin Holbrook has had a massive impact on the club and town from day one. He’s lifted all our spirits.

“The team play for him and play the way he wants them to play. And for him as much as anyone else I hope we win this (the Grand Final).

“There’s no such thing as deserved in sport because you have to earn it and deliver. But for Justin as much as anyone else I really hope the team can bring it home," he said.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
