Salford sign Atkin

Post by josie andrews »

Salford have announced the signing 0f Hull KR utility Chris Atkin on a deal from 2020.

KR confirmed today that Atkin was one of three players to depart Craven Park at the end of the season and he has since been unveiled as a Red Devils player.

The 26-year-old has spent the past two-and-a-half years at the Robins, but will now fill the void left by Jackson Hastings in Ian Watson’s side.

“I’m really excited,” said Atkin. “The boys have done really well this season and are pushing towards the play-offs at the end of the season now, so I’m really excited to come on board.

Atkin started his career at Swinton, when Ian Watson was heads coach.

“Watto (Ian Watson) was the one who brought me in at Swinton and gave me my professional debut.

“Since then, I’ve always wanted to work with him again and this opportunity has come up and I’m really looking forward to it and feeling determined to get back to it.

“He’s a really great coach and he’s proved that again this year.

“KR was a big step up from the Championship and I get to take it on again now and hopefully push Salford up the Super League.

“I’m looking forward to meeting the boys as well and just getting stuck into pre-season.”

Ian Watson contract
Atkin is Ian Watson’s second signing for 2020, following Dan Sarginson from Wigan.

Salford head coach Ian Watson added: “We’re really excited to have signed Chris for next season.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
