Super League Magic Weekend 2020: Expected line-up at St James' Park

Post by josie andrews »

Next year's event will be held in Newcastle

The Super League season is over and already the 2020 campaign is moving into view.

A host of clubs are due to get their pre-season campaigns under way in less than two weeks, while recruitment pictures are also taking shape.

We also know where next season’s Magic Weekend will be held with the showpiece event heading back to Newcastle next season.

Anfield hosted the event this season but after it was met with a mixed reaction, the Super League has decided to take it back to St James’ Park on the Bank Holiday weekend of May 23-24.

Magic Weekend was held in Newcastle for four consecutive years from 2015 to 2018, but the news that it will return to the north east has been met positively.

We know the 12 teams that will be competing, with Toronto Wolfpack winning promotion from the Championship to compete in the Super League, but what will the line-up be?

There appears to be two outstanding ties, though, with this system throwing up a replays of the last two Grand Finals with Salford Red Devils set to meet St Helens, while Wigan Warriors could play Warrington Wolves.

Magic Weekend fixtures are expected to be announced with the regular season fixtures during the week commencing November 4.

Possible Magic Weekend 2020 fixtures:

St Helens vs Salford Red Devils

Wigan Warriors vs Warrington Wolves

Castleford Tigers vs Catalans Dragons

Hull FC vs Leeds Rhinos

Wakefield Trinity vs Hull KR

Huddersfield Giants vs Toronto Wolfpack

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
