The RFL has outlined plans to replace 19-man squads with an expanded 21-man equivalent.

Clubs were informed of the proposal, which will see clubs lose an interchange should they name someone outside of their initial squad.

The proposal has been drawn up in the hope of stopping teams making late changes to their squads.

I can't say I think that is a good idea.

You will get 21 players named and the fans will have no clue if they are going to see their star players run out or them be replaced by three or four squad players.

This all stems from the RFL being unable to enforce the rule a team should always play its strongest side.

Why not announce 30 players then the team will always come from them. Except of course in the week of a semi final when an "injured" star player not even named in the 30 and annouced as clinically dead earlier in the week somehow miraculously recovers and plays.
