Hull Kingston Rovers are in talks to sign Castleford Tigers halfback Jamie Ellis.

League Express revealed shortly after the conclusion of the 2019 season that Rovers had been made aware of Ellis’ availability.

The move then went cold, but it can now be revealed that talks have been revived in the last week, and the player could make a return to Rovers.

Ellis is due to continue discussions with the Robins on Monday over a potential move back to the club he played for on loan in 2017.

While a deal hasn’t been finalised, Ellis is set to undergo a medical this week, suggesting an agreement is relatively close.

The 30-year-old is free to leave the Mend-A-Hose Jungle, despite having a year left to run on his deal.

He found opportunities at Castleford hard to come by in 2019 and, with the arrival of Danny Richardson to form a young, exciting British halfback pairing alongside Jake Trueman, his chances again appear limited in 2020.

Ellis last played for Rovers in the Championship, going on a season-long loan from Huddersfield after the Robins were relegated.

He helped steer the club to promotion in a halfback partnership that saw him team up with Jordan Abdull, who in a twist of fate has also returned to the Robins after two years away.

Should he sign, Ellis will be the club’s 19th, and most likely their final signing and would provide competition in the Rovers halves alongside new signings Joe Keyes and Abdull, as well as exciting youngster Mikey Lewis.
