Steve Prescott Foundation to donate huge amount to Mose Masoe's fund

Post by josie andrews »

The Steve Prescott Foundation is to donate a further £10,000 to the Rugby League Benevolent fund for the care and rehabilitation of Mose Masoe.

The Hull KR co-captain is currently receiving treatment for a serious spinal injury picked up in Rovers’ pre-season friendly with Wakefield Trinity earlier this month.

Masoe won’t be able to play again, but since the injury donations have been flooding in from around the sport of rugby league and it was announced on Friday that Betfred will donate half of their £500 man of the match prize to Masoe, with the other £250 going to Rob Burrow, who has been diagnosed with motor neurone disease.

In a statement released by the Steve Prescott Foundation, the organisation announced they will send another hefty amount Masoe’s way.

The statement read:

“The former St Helens forward will not play again after suffering a serious spinal injury ahead of the new season with Hull KR.

“The SPF will add this donation to the £40,000 presented to the Benevolent Fund the night before the injury to Masoe, whose goal is now to walk again.

“The 30-year-old’s wife Carissa has said she “can't begin to express my love and gratitude to everyone" who has supported him.

“The General Manager of the Rugby League Benevolent Fund Steve Ball has praised the SPF for the move.

“The SPF since its inception has been the major sponsor of the Benevolent Fund” said Ball.

“This is yet another magnificent gesture from an organisation that truly understands rugby league values within the family of rugby league.”

“Mike Denning is the Chairman of the SPF, who recently announced its 2020 calendar of fundraising events.

The injury to Mose could happen to anyone who takes to the rugby pitch,” he said.”

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
