Warrington fined for shot clock breach

Post by josie andrews »

They are the first club to fall foul of the regulations.

The RFL have fined Warrington £5,000 for breaching the competition’s shot clock rules.

The charge relates to the use of an interchange during the round thee fixture against Wakefield last month.

It’s the first time a club have been penalised in this way since the Shot Clock was introduced to Super League and other competitions in the 2019 season.

In a statement, the RFL say: “Late in the first half, Toby King went to ground with an injury after the shot clock had started for a scrum.

He was removed from the field under instruction from the match referee, in line with Shot Clock Injury Regulations but then returned to the field when Wakefield were in possession.

“Warrington had not used an interchange to allow the player to return to the field immediately or at the next recognised stoppage.”

Super League say that Wolves officials complied fully with the case and submitted relevant information.

The statement adds that Warrington “make no excuse for the breach and recognise the error the player has made.

“However they gained an advantage through King’s unpermitted return to the field, and have been found guilty by the RFL’s Operational Rules Tribunal of breaching the Match Day Operations Manual and of Improper Conduct.”

Half of the fine has been suspended.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
