Wigan and Leeds-linked half-back released by Parramatta

Post by josie andrews »

Jai Field is one of nine players to be released by the Parramatta Eels following their exit from the NRL Finals.

The 23-year-old speedster has been linked with Wigan Warriors after failing to nail down a first-team spot in the NRL.

Field joined the Eels in May after a move to Leeds Rhinos broke down prior to the 2020 season.

He has played six NRL games this campaign, scoring three tries from his natural position in the halves.

It was previously reported by Wigan Today that Field has qualified for a work visa ahead of his move to the Warriors, with head coach Adrian Lam describing him as a ‘perfect fit’.

Field has show flashes of brilliance in the NRL since making his debut for St George Illawarra in 2017.

He played 11 games for the Dragons before joining the Eels who have decided against prolonging his stay at the club.

The other eight players departing Parramatta this off-season are Kane Evans (Warriors), Stefano Utoikamanu (Tigers), David Gower, Peni Terepo, Andrew Davey, Rhys Davies, Jaeman Salmon and Brad Takairangi (all released).

Wigan-target Jai Field released by Parramatta Eels

Parramatta have confirmed the exit of Jai Field - paving the way for a move to Wigan for 2021.

The livewire halfback was out of contract and his departure from the Eels was expected.

But the NRL club today confirmed 11 players who will be departing after their season ended with defeat in the play-offs.

It is thought he has agreed a deal to join the Warriors next term.

Field, known for his speed, can play full-back or halfback. He has played the necessary games to qualify for a visa.

Adrian Lam has previously said he would be an asset for Wigan. "I've watched him growing up - I've always been a fan - and he's someone who could fit into this club perfectly," he said.
