Brave but ambitious Brett Hodgson appointment will help Hull FC approach 2021 with a spring in their step

Post by josie andrews »

Hodgson was appointed as the Black and Whites head coach on Wednesday evening

After eight months of searching, Hull FC finally have their man.

Brett Hodgson is the man who will lead the Black and Whites into the 2021 campaign as he makes the next step in his coaching career.

The former Wests Tigers assistant coach is highly thought of Down Under and he arrives at the KCOM Stadium ready to help his new side turn over a new leaf and build in what is set to be an important period for the club.

Of course, the Black and Whites are coming off the back of what has been a tough year in more ways than one.

However, it provides the stage for the new man to come in and make a real difference as FC look to approach the new campaign with a spring in their step and with ambitions of being able to compete at the top end of the competition once more.

The club haven’t rushed into making the appointment of Hodgson, in fact it comes at the end of an thorough and extensive process in which the club received applications from all other the world.

A shortlist of three-men was eventually drawn up with Hodgson competing with interim boss Andy Last and one other man, who Hull Live understands was not former Salford coach Ian Watson, despite meeting with him for talks.

The club looked deeper into Hodgson, who did spend time with Hull shortly after he retired from the game in 2013, working with Jamie Shaul and the club’s kickers.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Got to feel for Last, to be replaced by a full coach is one thing but for the club to take a gambit on random Aussie assistant coach.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.
