They have not said no yet just maybe so the Spanish bid is still in play. Other bidders sniffing around apparently. Maybe Eric is one of them and we’ll get the stadium for xmas

Wigan Athletic: EFL blocks takeover of League One club
The prospective takeover of Wigan Athletic has been blocked after the EFL said the new owners "failed to satisfy the league's requirements".

The Spanish consortium were given a second extension to complete their purchase of the ailing League One club last month.

The English Football League said they had "undertaken significant due diligence on the relevant parties".

Wigan were put into administration and relegated from the second tier in July.

The EFL added: "The board reiterated its commitment to working with the administrators to secure a successful and sustainable future for the club and will meet with them to discuss the implications of this decision at the earliest opportunity."

BBC Sport understands that the current bidders still have an exclusivity period that lasts for another seven days.

Ian Leneghan interview posted yesterday on Wigan TV says he has spent lots of time trying to make sure that the Latics and Warriors stay together at the stadium .Put a bid in early doors to buy the stadium administrators say the Stadium is to be sold to whomever buys the Latics. Lease that is in place has to be honored whoever buys the stadium as Wigan Council are the landlords we just have to go to court and get it reinstated .If you've not got Wigan TV worth paying for a month to listen to what he had to say pity it is not on you tube or face book to appease the Latics fans who are against Warriors owning them or the stadium. I cannot understand why this saga is still dragging on. The administrators/liquidators have a statutory duty to realise as much as they can from the assets of the Club to pay off the debts claimed by the creditors. This long drawn out affair is effecting none of that, any money being realised will be being used to pay the costs that the administrators are charging/running up.

Administrators for League One Wigan Athletic are in advanced talks with a consortium led by Bahrain businessman Talal Mubarak al-Hammad.

While no deposit has been paid and talks are continuing with other parties, it is regarded as the most plausible option for the beleaguered Latics since a deal agreed with a Spanish consortium collapsed at Christmas.

The English Football League are being kept informed about the situation.

It is understood talks have progressed under the agreement of anonymity but five names, including Al-Hammad, have been registered on Companies House as directors of a company called Phoenix 2021 Ltd.

These include Wigan finance director Richard Bramwell.

The club has been in administration since June and were relegated to League One as a direct consequence of the 12-point deduction imposed.

EFL rules prevent any club from starting successive seasons in administration, so time is ticking for the situation to be resolved.
