Shaun Wane will not be the next Warrington coach.

The England boss has been strongly linked with the role ever since Wolves coach Steve Price announced he will be leaving at the end of this year to return to Australia.

Wire – desperate for a title – had Wane at the top of their wanted list, having been impressed with his haul of three Grand Final wins against the Wolves, as well as two Challenge Cup successes and a World Club Challenge victory during his time at hometown club Wigan.

But Wigantoday understands Wane has ruled himself out of the running to take charge of the Super League outfit next year.

Warrington may now look at Daryl Powell, who is leaving Castleford at the end of this season, as well as candidates from Down Under.

Wane was appointed England coach more than a year ago but has still been linked with several roles since, both in Super League and the NRL.

But the 56-year-old has reassured his bosses at the RFL he is fully focussed on his role with the national side as he steps up his plans for this autumn’s World Cup.

He will hold his first face-to-face meeting with his players on April 6 ahead of a training session the following week.

Wane also has a mid-season international against an All Stars select team in June, ahead of the start of the World Cup in October.

Wane will be Wigan coach from next season on. Looking at Lam he now needs a trophy or his tenure is up. If he wins a trophy then NRL clubs will come calling. Nrl is in for a merry go round with coaches especially if Bellamy moves new franchise etc.

This is my hunch with the way things are at Wigan. Just getting that feeling no big trophy since 2018 might see Wane back.
