Australia should be banned from next two World Cups, says legend

Rugby League legend Garry Schofield, in his weekly League Express column, believes Australia should be banned from the next two World Cups, if they refuse to take part in the 2021 tournament.

Quite simply, there’s no way the Aussies should be dictating to the rest of the rugby league world,” Schofield wrote.

“I think we should give them a helping hand by telling them if they don’t send their strongest possible squad to this World Cup, they will be banned from the next two tournaments.”

Schofield is known for not holding back, but it’s obvious that the Australians’ reluctance is rankling those following the sport in the UK whilst tournament organiser Jon Dutton tries desperately to persuade those Down Under to make the trip.

The world is full of sports where the dominant league don't send their players for international competitions regularly. Maybe we're about to become one of them.

Is it really? I don't remember Brazil pulling out out the World Cup, or the All Blacks not pitching up for the RUWC.

Ice hockey probably beats us in terms of nations playing TBH. Baseball a little more restricted.

dont bring american sports into it, they dont count, they win the superbowl and are classed as world champions, its a domestic competition
