Hull KR left without game as rivals snub chance to step in for Salford Red Devils

The Red Devils were forced to postpone the match due to Covid issues

Hull KR’s game against Salford has been postponed due to Covid issues in the Red Devils camp.

As first reported by Hull Live, Salford were left struggling to fulfil the fixture after fresh coronavirus cases were identified at the club.

The match has now officially been called off, as well as Salford’s clash with Wakefield Trinity scheduled for next Monday.

Rovers made attempts to switch opponents at short notice again but it is understood there was no appetite from Leigh Centurions nor Huddersfield Giants to step in.

The upshot is Tony Smith’s side will not play this week and remain on 11 games, seven short of the required number to be eligible for the play-offs.

KR’s next scheduled fixture is against Catalans Dragons at Craven Park next Monday.

“Positive Covid tests mean the postponement of Salford’s next two Betfred Super League fixtures – Thursday’s Round 16 match against Hull Kingston Rovers and the scheduled visit to Wakefield Trinity on Monday 2 August,” a statement from the Rugby Football League read.

Under the RFL’s Covid-19 protocols, a team can apply to postpone a match if seven or more senior players are unavailable as a result of Covid-19 – either through positive tests or as close contacts. Unfortunately, Salford have exceeded this threshold.

The postponed fixtures will be added to the list for possible rearrangement, although the Betfred Super League table is to be determined by win points percentage to allow for the possibility of not all fixtures being fulfilled.”

Hull KR have now seen seven games postponed during the latest wave of coronavirus in Super League, including the Hull derby twice.

Last Saturday’s match against Catalans was the club’s first match in five weeks.

HKR have hardly played a game for weeks & jumped in at the last minute to play Catalan when Castleford had to ‘withdraw due to Covid!’

Teams should be docked points or fined if they won’t try switching games to fulfil fixtures IMO

Leigh & Huddersfield ought to be ashamed of themselves! 🤨

While I agree in principle, clubs have the responsibility to maintain player welfare and the amount of games being played at short turn around is a joke.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.

Utter shithousery on behalf of those clubs it just shows the contempt they have for the sport at the moment and it’s paying fans

And to think the owner of one of those clubs is chairman of SL utter madness

on the highlights HKR played really well at Catalan, so i would guess that neither side want a pasting if they perform like that again

Yes they did. Abdull seems to have gone from 'Championship level' to quality half these days.
