Warrington Wolves land Hull Kingston Rovers back as part of 2022 recruitment

Exclusive: The Wolves have secured a deal for the 26-year-old.

Warrington Wolves are on the verge of signing Hull Kingston Rovers' Greg Minikin.

Rugby League Live understands terms have been agreed in a move that will see the 26-year-old reunite with former coach Daryl Powell at the Halliwell Jones Stadium next season.

Minikin is off-contract at Craven Park at the end of the year and has now made the decision to move to the Wolves as they enter a new era under a coach that handed him his first Super League opportunity.

Catalans Dragons and Wakefield Trinity are also believed to have previously shown interest in Minikin, who has been one of Rovers' most consistent performers in recent months.

The final formalities of the deal are believed to have been tied up today.

Able to play both wing and centre, Minikin will help fill the void left by the likes of Jake Mamo and Tom Lineham in the Wire backline next season.

Rovers are understood to have agreed a contract extension with Ben Crooks while the club has also added Sam Wood to their squad for 2022.

But given salary cap constraints as a result of those deals, as well as the arrival of Lachlan Coote, it has resulted in them losing Minikin to a rival club for the coming campaign.

It's a blow for Rovers, with Minkin in fine form since returning to the squad in July and being a mainstay throughout August.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
