Salford Red Devils face relocation with four potential venues outlined

Post by josie andrews »

It was announced last night at a fans forum that Salford Red Devils will be playing their home games at the AJ Bell Stadium in the 2022 Super League season.

However, with increasing rent charges from the potential new takeover, there is little financial viability for the club in staying in Barton past 2023.

That means that a number of ideas have been floated – including moving to Moor Lane which was one of the topics discussed heavily by executive chairman Paul King last night.

Another possibility also arose, too, with relocation outside of Salford also spoken about with three options raised.

The three include the Etihad Athletic track, Gigg Lane and Middlebrook – though no conversations have been had over the latter.

Located near Manchester City’s Etihad Stadium, the Athletic track holds 6,500 in its capacity, but of course, it has a track that runs on the outside of the pitch meaning supporters would be far away from the action.

Gigg Lane has played home to the Swinton Lions in recent seasons, with Bury’s home ground sitting over 12,500 – though this has currently been reduced to just under 12,000.

Meanwhile, Middlebrook is in Bolton, but there was no reference to what venue the club would play at.

That being said, the Red Devils will not be at the AJ Bell Stadium past 2023 and so it remains to be seen where their future home lies.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan

Surely they can't move Salford outside Salford... makes no sense.
These are two reasons not to trust people.
1. We don't know them.
2. We do know them.
