Toulouse Olympique in disarray as key player walks - and four others could follow

Exclusive: One of Toulouse's star players has walked away from the club following a dispute.

Toulouse Olympique are facing an emergency on the eve of the Super League season with Mark Kheirallah set to leave the club - while four other players could also depart due to a disagreement over Covid vaccinations.

Rugby League Live can reveal Kheirallah, Toulouse's star player for the best part of a decade, has had a fall-out with the club following a dispute and has not been seen for a number of days.

And four other players could all follow Kheirallah out of the exit door due to their reluctance to get vaccinated.

Kheirallah's contract has not been terminated and while there are hopes the matter can be resolved, sources have told Rugby League Live that the chances of the fullback playing for the club again are slim.

At the same time, club officials are currently locked in talks with the unnamed quartet in the hope of reaching a solution, but there are fears that they could all leave due to their opposition to getting vaccinated.

As it stands, unvaccinated athletes are unable to travel to and from France to the UK, meaning every player in Super League who has not got the vaccine will be unable to travel for games between the two countries.

While that means UK clubs could be without their unvaccinated players for as many as three games, the issue is more pressing for Toulouse given they are required to travel across the channel every other week. As such, any unvaccinated players will be unavailable for half of the season. Toulouse are understood to be keen to resolve the issue with the players and are actively trying to assist.

But there appears little hope of Kheirallah returning. The fullback, widely regarded as one of the best players outside Super League for the past five years, was expected to be a key player for the club during their first season in the top flight.

But he is now set to depart in news that causes the club unwanted disruption just three weeks before their Super League opener with Huddersfield Giants.

As such, Toulouse face the prospect of being without their fullback and several other key players.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
