Leigh Centurions lock in Warrington Wolves forward as part of 2023 recruitment plans

Post by josie andrews »

The utility forward is set to arrive at LSV next season.

Leigh Centurions are set to add Matt Davis to their squad for 2023. Rugby League Live understands the Warrington Wolves forward will be part of Adrian Lam's squad next season following the end of his contract with the Wire.

Davis, 25, has spent the past four seasons at the Halliwell Jones Stadium and was part of the side that won the Challenge Cup in 2019. Capable of playing in a number of positions including loose forward, back-row and hooker, the Leicester-born talent has made 39 Super League appearances for Warrington since his move from London Broncos, scoring four tries.

Davis burst onto the scene with the Broncos as part of their Championship-winning side in 2018. That earned him a move to Warrington, where he quickly became a part of their first-team plans. He has remained a regular this year and started in their recent defeat to Wakefield Trinity.

The Leythers are already assembling their squad for 2022 and are looking to recruit a Super League standard squad ready to battle it out in the top flight next year. They are currently top of the Championship following Monday's 32-12 victory over promotion rivals Featherstone Rovers.

Meanwhile, a huge turnover of players is expected at Warrington Wolves, with coach Daryl Powell ready to make drastic changes. Josh Charnley, another player linked with a move to LSV, is a confirmed departee while Australia Billy Magoulias has also departed after being granted an early release. Mike Cooper has signed for Wigan Warriors and further releases are expected. Davis will now join the exodus as a string of new arrivals are lined up.

Matt Dufty, Paul Vaughan and Josh McGuire are all expected to arrive from the NRL while the club has already confirmed the signings of Gil Dudson and Sam Kasiano from Catalans Dragons. Former Wests Tigers forward Thomas Mikaele has already arrived after taking up a contract until the end of 2024.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
