Jake Connor could head Hull FC departures as Tony Smith begins squad overhaul plans

The Black and Whites could be set for some big moves in and out

Hull FC are still looking to add recruitments to their 2023 squad, but it's understood that to bring in any further additions, the club will have to factor in a departure. The Black and Whites have added Jake Trueman, Tex Hoy, Liam Sutcliffe and Brad Dwyer to their squad, with all four players reporting to pre-season training in November.

In a briefing with the media on Monday afternoon, club chairman Adam Pearson stated that Hull FC are running at full cap, so that again reinforces the trade route. Pearson, along with Tony Smith, also hinted that there could be a bit of tinkering with the squad, with a couple of additions to come in. Naturally, that means there will also be some surprise departures before next season gets underway.

Hull Live understands that Jake Connor could be one of those departures, with the player open to a move. There is at least one interested party in Connor, who would free up significant cap space for Hull FC to bring in further additions.

It's understood a conversation has taken place between the club and player about his future, but at this stage that's all they are; conversations.

Tony Smith will naturally have the final say in any move, having officially started as the club's new head coach on Monday. Smith is in the process of getting to know his squad before they start pre-season training in November.

Smith spoke highly of Connor whilst speaking to the media on Monday. "He's unbelievably talented - he's got some different attributes to most other players," he said.

However, as well as Hull exploring their options, this perhaps has more to do with Connor, who still commutes to Hull from Halifax and who also has a young child.

If Connor was to go, it would free up marquee level wages which would allow Hull to bring in one or perhaps two new additions to the club. At the same time, it would leave Hull with significant changes to make in attack given Connor's influence over the last two years, an influence they would need to replace ahead of pre-season.

Anyone can support a team when it is winning, that takes no courage.
But to stand behind a team, to defend a team when it is down and really needs you,
that takes a lot of courage. #18thMan
